Long phone queues make booking appointments difficult

I spent twenty minutes attempting to reach the practice by phone starting from 8:30am, beginning at number six in the queue, only to be informed that no appointments were available for that day. I had attempted to arrange a pre-booked appointment several months earlier, given that I work seven days a week, but was told that appointments can only be booked on the morning of the appointment itself, as advance booking is not offered. I questioned why this service option is not available. I was advised to call back the following morning. This creates a difficult situation regarding my work commitments, as I would need to potentially spend up to twenty minutes on the phone during working hours. There is also uncertainty as to whether an appointment will be secured at all, making the process feel unpredictable. When I expressed my concerns, I was directed to out of hours services or hospital attendance. This seems contradictory given the messaging about avoiding hospital visits. As a result of this experience, I took time off work today but was unable to obtain an appointment. I find the current system to be ineffective and frustrating.
