Long phone wait, then refused wound care support

Following discharge from hospital after a routine surgical procedure, I required daily wound care as part of my recovery plan. The hospital suggested that my registered practice could potentially provide this ongoing support. Given my proximity to the surgery and my registration there, I felt it was the most practical option for managing what is an uncomfortable situation requiring regular treatment. After a lengthy phone call, I was informed that the practice was unable to offer daily wound dressing changes and that I would need to travel to an alternative centre for what is a brief ten-minute appointment. This was disappointing, as I had understood that local practices typically coordinate post-hospital care and monitor patient recovery. Instead, I found myself being directed between multiple locations in a way that felt inconvenient and poorly coordinated. I am concerned that patients with less ability to navigate these arrangements, particularly older individuals, could experience deterioration in their condition as a result of such limitations in service provision.
