Long phone wait, then turned away at reception

After waiting a considerable time to reach the practice with a vision-related concern, I was informed by reception staff that I would not be able to see a clinician and was instead directed to the pharmacy as per practice procedure. I was experiencing facial swelling but uncertain of the cause, and felt frustrated that administrative staff were making decisions about whether clinical assessment was necessary without any medical knowledge. I have concerns that patients are increasingly attempting to self-diagnose due to difficulties accessing appointments with clinicians. This situation was particularly disappointing given how infrequently I am able to see my regular doctor. I am dissatisfied with this experience.
