I've been a patient at this medical practice since 2010, but the service quality has significantly declined since the COVID pandemic. Last November, I accompanied a friend to a morning appointment at Pear tree, where we encountered a chaotic entrance with a lengthy queue. People were coughing extensively, and tensions rose as some argued about potential queue-jumping. When my friend finally saw the doctor, the consultation lasted barely two minutes. A similar experience occurred in January at Oakwood surgery, where another early morning appointment revealed a stressed and rushed doctor dealing with a long queue. My friend, who uses a wheelchair and has physical disabilities, felt particularly uncomfortable. Personally struggling with sciatica, I now resort to the urgent treatment centre on Osmaston Road for pain relief medication. Securing an appointment at Oakwood surgery near my home is incredibly challenging, with phone lines consistently difficult to access. Their e-consultation service is equally frustrating, often responding that no more referrals can be accepted that day. This ongoing struggle is exhausting, and I've even resorted to using alcohol for pain relief on occasion - a far from ideal solution. I'm sharing this experience in the slim hope that the service might improve, though I'm not optimistic about any meaningful changes.
