Misdiagnosed Cold Led to Pneumonia Hospitalization

In May 2019, I had the opportunity to visit the Washway Road Medical Centre. Leading up to my appointment, I had been on antibiotics for a week and was experiencing a worsening cough along with a fever and other related symptoms. Prior to this incident, I was actively training for an Ironman competition, which meant that my health and fitness levels were quite high. During my visit, the staff informed me that it was merely a cold and suggested treatments such as Lemsip and facial steaming sessions. However, within just 24 hours of that consultation, my situation significantly worsened necessitating admission to the hospital. After undergoing x-rays and blood tests there, I received a diagnosis of pneumonia which resulted in a two-day hospitalization. This experience stands out as my sole interaction with this medical center; unfortunately, they severely misdiagnosed my issue. The nurse lacked both the necessary skills to assess my situation accurately and failed to recognize when it would have been appropriate to refer me for further evaluation by someone more qualified. Fortunately for me, I had previously maintained good health; however, if circumstances were different this oversight could have led to dire consequences. It’s important to mention that this review was previously dismissed by the NHS website due to its serious nature regarding specific practices at their facility. This makes me question how reliable their NHS review ratings truly are.
