Mixed experiences at GP surgery: PTSD and LPR

I experienced a mixed bag at this medical practice. One GP stood out positively, demonstrating empathy and attentiveness to my mental health concerns. However, my interactions with another doctor left much to be desired. This particular GP's approach to discussing my traumatic experiences was insensitive and counterproductive, exacerbating my PTSD symptoms. I later discovered that the details I painfully shared weren't even documented in my records, rendering the emotionally taxing conversation futile. The practice's handling of my persistent cough was equally disappointing. For over two years, I sought help for this issue, only to have it repeatedly noted in my file without any meaningful investigation. It wasn't until I consulted an external specialist that I was diagnosed with LPR, a condition that should have been within the realm of consideration for a competent GP. This oversight led to prolonged discomfort and unnecessary medication. The contrast between the empathetic and the overbearing GPs was stark. The latter's competitive nature and pressure tactics were particularly ill-suited to treating vulnerable patients with complex mental health needs. Their lack of understanding about PTSD and its sensitivities was alarming for a medical professional in their position. Ultimately, I found more relief from alternative remedies like aloe vera juice than from the numerous ineffective prescriptions pushed by the practice. This experience has left me questioning the overall competence and patient-centered approach of this surgery, save for the one compassionate GP who actually listened.
