Online booking system made follow-up difficult

I attended my annual health check and was informed during the appointment that I would need to return for further assessment due to some concerns that had been identified. When I attempted to schedule a follow-up visit, I was directed to use the online booking system instead of being able to book directly. I found this frustrating and wondered whether this is standard practice or specific to this particular practice.
