Out of catchment application took far too long

I enquired about registering at the practice after receiving a helpful response during my initial contact. Since my location falls slightly outside their standard catchment area, though only a short walk away, I was instructed to complete an out-of-area registration form with an expected processing time of 2 weeks. However, after 4 weeks have passed, each time I contact them I receive the same message that they are managing a backlog and the application may be processed within the following 2 weeks. When I first applied, I was informed they were welcoming new patients, with no indication of significant application volumes at that time. The extended waiting period has been disappointing as I require medical attention and the actual timeline has considerably exceeded what was initially communicated. I feel I would have benefited from seeking care elsewhere to receive an appointment more promptly. The experience has been frustrating, and I believe the information provided about processing timeframes was not transparent.

Dear Miss Anderson. Thank you for your feedback. All practices have a catchment area, which is determined by patient's postcode, hence why you were asked to complete an out of area form. I am sorry that there was a delay in your registration due to a high volume of new patient registration and also down to staff absences. Of course if you had needed to see a GP urgently we would have ensured that you would get the medical treatment you needed, by marking your registration as urgent. We have taken appropriate action to clear any backlog of registration. We can see that you have since been seen by a clinician and hope that you are well Kind regards Liberty Bridge Rd Practice - Management Team Management Team From your records we can see that you have now been seen by a clinician.
