Reception staff lack basic empathy and respect

The current medical centre replaced the previous facility at the former location. My family members use this surgery, and I have significant concerns about how the reception staff interact with patients. I believe that most of the team, with few exceptions, would benefit from additional training or a change of role, as their approach often comes across as unwelcoming and dismissive. Receptionists serve as the initial contact point for patients who are often vulnerable and seeking support, yet the team appears to lack understanding and compassion in their interactions. I have also noticed that a considerable proportion of negative reviews seem to come from patients from diverse ethnic backgrounds, which raises questions about consistency in how different patients are treated. The surgery has a responsibility to take patient feedback seriously and ensure that all individuals are treated with equal respect. The manner in which reception staff communicate with patients at first contact is discouraging and potentially affects the quality of care patients receive. This is particularly disappointing given that the clinical staff generally provide excellent service. The reception team should be held accountable for their patient interactions, as poor experiences at this initial stage may influence whether patients choose to continue using the surgery or seek care elsewhere. I would hope the surgery prioritises creating an environment where all patients feel respected and valued, as this is fundamental to good primary care. Kind regards
