Reception turned away elderly patient without offering alternatives

I was deeply disappointed by the approach taken during a visit this morning at 8.30. My relative accompanied an elderly family member to the surgery regarding a wound requiring medical assessment. Despite there appearing to be clinical staff available, the reception team indicated that no appointments were available and suggested attending A&E instead. When this decision was escalated to management, the same response was given without exploring alternative options. Given the potential health risks involved, I felt the response lacked compassion and problem-solving. No alternative solutions were offered, and the situation was handled in a way that felt dismissive of the clinical concern. This experience reflects broader frustrations with how primary care services manage urgent cases, which may contribute to unnecessary pressure on emergency departments. The overall experience fell significantly short of expectations for patient-centred care. The staff interactions felt unhelpful and inflexible, and I was left with the impression that finding care elsewhere would have been preferable. Based on this visit, I would encourage others to carefully consider their options when choosing a practice.
