Reception turned away urgent request without offering triage

I had a disappointing experience with the service today. When I contacted reception about arranging an appointment for my young family member who was experiencing discomfort, I was informed that no slots were available and directed to call an alternative service at 5pm. Upon calling at that time, I was told that all available appointments for the day had been allocated, with only a limited number released daily. In the past, when appointments were unavailable, clinical staff have been able to assess the situation over the phone, arrange appropriate medication, and organise necessary testing. I'm uncertain why this approach is no longer being offered. As a result, I've had to attend an urgent care centre at 5:30pm after spending the day at home with a family member in discomfort. This was not an ideal outcome.
