Receptionist Attitude Makes Medical Calls Unbearable

I am completely exhausted from the need to motivate myself before making this surgery call, primarily due to the anticipated reactions I’ll receive from the reception staff. It used to be that they would not pry into my issues at all; however, this seems to have become a standard practice now. They ought to honor a patient’s request for privacy when they mention that such information is meant for the doctor or nurse only. I’ve reached my limit of hearing the cliché response of “but if we know more….” If you gather too much information, it surpasses what I wish you to know. My medical consent is not conducted with you; it occurs between me and my healthcare provider instead. The moment their demeanor shifts because you've withheld details about your condition, it becomes impossible to engage in a respectful dialogue. If there happens to be an error in reading your phone number, which is merely an innocent mistake, any attempt on your part will invoke a response like ‘That’s what I said.’ In reality, that isn’t accurate; otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought it up in the first place. My sole concern is ensuring that my doctor reaches out via the correct phone number without complications arising from miscommunication. We don’t initiate these calls seeking consultations with you nor do we aim at complicating your work lives; yet for over ten years now, it seems you've consistently made us feel as though that's exactly our intent.
