Receptionists block access to doctors with unhelpful advice

The reception team appears to be obstructive and seems to discourage patients from accessing doctor appointments whenever possible, including offering medical opinions that fall outside their remit such as reassuring patients that symptoms are nothing to worry about. In my case, when I subsequently contacted 111, it became apparent that my concerns had merit. One of the senior clinicians is well-informed but comes across as dismissive, adopting a lecturing approach rather than engaging in genuine dialogue, which necessitates interrupting to contribute to the conversation. Their manner tends to make patients feel like they are imposing and that their concerns are being judged as trivial. The pharmacy team's guidance has generally been of limited value. One team member suggested yoga as a remedy for migraines, whilst another appeared unfamiliar with the purposes of my medications and provided conflicting information regarding which were intended for ongoing management versus immediate symptom relief. Fortunately, I was able to identify these discrepancies myself. The healthcare assistants have been a positive aspect of my experience and have consistently demonstrated warmth and professionalism during my appointments with them. On balance, this practice does not feel like an ideal choice for those requiring substantive medical care.
