Shocking patient confidentiality breach during endless wait

My interaction with the medical practice was incredibly exasperating. I endured a 35-minute wait in the queue, and when the phone seemed to be answered, it appeared to have been simply placed down without anyone addressing me. I could overhear the receptionist conversing with another patient for approximately 10 minutes. When someone finally picked up the phone, they claimed a technical error was responsible and were unsure what occurred, later admitting they had removed their headset to assist a patient at the desk when my call came through. I'm uncertain whether this is standard procedure, but it seems fundamentally inappropriate and requires immediate modification. Most concerning was that I inadvertently heard this patient's entire personal information, including their name, date of birth, and details about their ADHD - which is unquestionably an unintentional violation of patient confidentiality. Despite this incident, the surgery generally operates well, and the staff are pleasant. Were it not for this specific experience, I would have no criticisms whatsoever.
