Son's painful cold and gp runaround

Absolutely shocking general practice surgery experience. Their online consultation promises a call within two days, but they delay and push appointments further. After six years in the area, I've never received satisfactory service. They consistently refuse patient consultations. Recently, my son suffered a severe cold with swollen neck glands, causing significant pain while eating and speaking. I contacted 111 for an emergency appointment, knowing the GP would be unhelpful. When I called to confirm the booking, they demanded a COVID test, forcing unnecessary complications. I proactively tested my son to prevent potential spread, yet they still insisted on additional testing before a face-to-face consultation. The entire process was frustratingly bureaucratic. Receptionists and doctors were incredibly unprofessional, threatening to end the call and offering only phone consultations. Eventually, we secured a face-to-face appointment, but not before my son missed two school days. Compared to my previous experience in St Albans, this surgery is monumentally disappointing. Their service feels deliberately negligent, seemingly exploiting the area's socio-economic challenges. I attempted to complain through official channels, but it feels futile - they appear indifferent to patient needs. Ultimately, self-diagnosis through online research seems more effective than engaging with this dysfunctional healthcare provider. It's genuinely disheartening how little they seem to care about patient welfare.
