Struggling to book appointments online only

The practice now only offers online appointments. I have been attempting to secure an appointment for several weeks, but the online booking system consistently shows as full. This has been the case during the same time window each day for the past three weeks. When I contacted the practice by phone, I was advised to continue attempting to book online, as the reception team indicated they cannot access the booking system. During this time, my health condition has been deteriorating. I am also concerned about accessibility for patients who may not have internet access or be comfortable using online booking methods.

Dear Nikki, Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of your experiences with Knoll Medical Practice. All feedback is vital as it allows us to better understand the wider patient experience and modify our working practices accordingly. I sincerely apologise for the difficulties you've experienced in trying to book an appointment and I understand your frustration and the impact this is having on your health. Demand for appointments is currently very high, and we are working hard to increase availability. At Knoll Medical Practice, we use a GP-led system to review all appointment requests. This helps ensure you see the right healthcare professional at the right time. We encourage you to book appointments online through the NHS App or on our practice website. It's quick and easy, and your request will be reviewed by a doctor the same day. By encouraging online appointment requests, we aim to ensure that our most vulnerable patients, such as the elderly, those with disabilities, and those who lack internet access, have easier access to our practice via the telephone or in person. Accessing primary care services is a significant challenge for many patients across the UK. This is due to a complex interplay of factors, including: • Declining GP workforce: Fewer GPs and GP partners are available to provide care. • Increased patient complexity: Long waiting lists for hospital care lead to more complex patients being managed in the community. • Aging population: An increasing elderly population with greater healthcare needs. • Years of underfunding: Inadequate investment in primary care has strained resources and limited capacity. These factors have contributed to reduced access for patients. I'd welcome the opportunity to learn more about your experiences. You can reach me directly at [email protected] Yours sincerely, Callum McQue Practice Manager
