Surgery cancelled appointment without medication supply

My husband was diagnosed with a condition requiring an injection every three months and had an appointment scheduled. An hour before the appointment, he was contacted and told that the surgery's medication supply had not arrived, so the appointment was cancelled. He was advised he would be contacted once supplies became available. This medication is important for his health management, and he had been informed at diagnosis that timely administration was necessary. He called the surgery the next day, but the medication still had not arrived. He was told again that he would be contacted when it became available, though no timeframe was provided. His hospital consultant was able to supply the medication and suggested he contact the surgery to have it administered. The earliest available appointment was Monday, which he accepted. After collecting the medication from the hospital, he visited the surgery on the chance that someone might be able to help and reduce his worry. Upon checking the system, he was informed that the nurse was unfortunately no longer available. It was 3:38 pm when he checked the time after leaving the surgery. We have been registered with this practice for many years, and while I understand that policies and procedures were likely followed, I wonder where the care and compassion in healthcare has gone.
