Terrible customer service and endless hold times

I'm perplexed by the absurd situation where my fiancée has been languishing on hold for an excruciatingly long time (presently at 65 minutes) as the supposed 'first caller in line'. Would it be too much to ask for the receptionist to actually answer the phone? And maybe, just maybe, not instantly disconnecting the call simply because it's past their convenient cutoff time of 4:30pm? After reading these other accounts, I'm genuinely baffled how this receptionist continues to maintain their employment.
