Terrible receptionist ruins potentially life-saving medical care

My interactions with the doctors have been satisfactory, but the receptionist I spoke with (whose name escapes me) is arguably the most incompetent staff member imaginable, potentially the worst in the entire United Kingdom. I've never encountered such abysmal service in my life. I called regarding a spreading eye infection and needed an antibiotic prescription, which an NHS optician had already recommended with supporting documentation. Incredibly, the receptionist claimed it could take up to three weeks for a doctor to review the report and refused to schedule an immediate appointment. However, when I contacted 111, they swiftly arranged same-day medical consultation with the GP. Seriously, how can someone dismiss a rapidly spreading eye infection by suggesting a three-week waiting period? What am I supposed to do in the meantime? Allow the infection to potentially compromise my vision? The logic is absolutely nonsensical. I've experienced numerous challenging situations, but this encounter surpasses them all. I frequently ponder whether these receptionists believe patients enjoy being shuttled around or actually want to visit the GP for any reason. Candidly, that receptionist requires replacement, comprehensive training, or at minimum, a lesson in basic human empathy. Shaking my head in disbelief.
