Terrible service from receptionists who don't care

I've been a patient at this surgery for over four decades, and I can confidently say that during the era of Dr Freeman, Dr Stokel, and Dr Coombs, the care was exceptional - doctors genuinely listened and paid attention to patients. Now, I'm baffled by the purpose of their receptionists. When you call, all they do is repeat "DO A PATCHES" without considering elderly patients who struggle with technology. The current reception staff seem disinterested in helping, constantly redirecting patients to walk-in centres or pharmacists. It's particularly frustrating when they then inappropriately respond to patch requests that shouldn't be their responsibility. Imagine wanting to consult a doctor about a personal medical issue like a boil, but feeling uncomfortable discussing it with a receptionist who just pushes you towards online patches. The whole system is appalling. This surgery should seriously consider closing down, given how impossible it is to see a doctor and how dismissive the staff are. The recent experience with my husband epitomizes their incompetence - bitten by a horsefly, he was first sent to a pharmacist who immediately referred him back to the doctors, only to be told to do online patches and then redirected to a walk-in centre. I've never encountered such a dysfunctional medical service. We will definitely be changing our GP and filing a formal complaint with the NHS ombudsman.
