Told to call back tomorrow instead of same-day help

I felt let down by the difficulty in obtaining an appointment and what appeared to be a departure from current NHS access standards. When I called at 8:30 am as directed, I was informed that no appointments were available and was asked to contact the practice again the following day. According to the Modern General Practice Access guidelines in effect, practices should not be directing patients to call back on another occasion. Under the current GP contract, surgeries are expected to offer a same-day clinical review or provide clear next steps when patients first make contact. Given my circumstances at that time and the significant physical discomfort I was experiencing, being advised to simply try calling again felt like an inadequate response to my healthcare needs. I believe patients should not need to persist so persistently to access routine medical evaluation.
