Unhelpful receptionist nearly derails crucial medical care

My 18-month-old son has been battling recurring ear and throat infections, leading to multiple emergency room visits due to high fevers. We went to Clarence Medical Centre knowing he needed antibiotics. The doctor prescribed medication, but we struggled immensely to administer it. Despite our best efforts and mixing it with drinks, our son consistently spit it out. Even his nursery staff couldn't get him to take the medicine and advised us to return to the doctor. After consulting the NHS helpline, we were told to revisit the clinic. Typically, getting an appointment is challenging, so we arrived without one. When we explained the situation to the receptionist, she dismissively suggested mixing the medicine with various substances - something we'd already attempted. Her unhelpful attitude was infuriating. When I questioned her medical qualifications, she admitted she wasn't trained and briefly consulted a doctor. She returned, stating there was nothing they could do. Frustrated and shocked by her callous response, we demanded to see a physician directly. The doctor listened to our son's medical history and prescribed an alternative antibiotic that our child readily accepted. This receptionist, who lacks medical training and seemingly handles administrative tasks inconsistently, should not be providing medical advice. Based on other reviews, her interactions have been problematic, and action should be taken before her negligence potentially causes serious harm. "Shocking" doesn't even begin to describe the experience.
