Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals significant challenges with appointment availability and phone access. Patients report persistent difficulty reaching the practice by telephone, with many describing lengthy wait times or disconnected calls when attempting to book appointments. When contact is made, patients frequently encounter fully booked schedules with limited same-day or next-day availability. Reception experience is mixed, with some patients noting courteous staff while others describe discourteous interactions and perceived dismissiveness.

Communication and responsiveness emerge as key concerns. Patients report cancelled appointments without adequate explanation, unmet promises of call-backs, and insufficient follow-up on referrals and medical information. Several reviews highlight concerns about care experience, including long waiting times for consultations and perceived lack of responsiveness to patient needs. A smaller number of patients describe positive experiences, citing attentive teams, skilled medical expertise, and welcoming staff who provided exceptional care.

Organisation and continuity of care present additional issues. Patients mention disorganisation in record-keeping, failures to transmit medical information between services, and inconsistent appointment management. The practice operates under high demand with limited resources, which some reviews acknowledge as a contributing factor to access constraints.

Disgusting Disability Discrimination

Reviewing from a different account as the surgery had reported my in-depth review, and it is currently in the appeal process. I am a disabled wheelchair user living in adapted housing. I'm so ill, I've been confined to bed for the last 8 years, completely housebound. For some unknown reason, the doctors decided to remove my housebound status. As a result, I could no longer access healthcare. When I called for an appointment, the GP would not see me. I ended up being rushed into hospital with sepsis, for an infection that could have been caught with antibiotics. I had to undergo emergency surgery. The doctors used this hospital stay to continue their discrimination. Apparently if I was able to be rushed to hospital, I was no longer housebound. This is completely against the NHS guidelines. I complained, and my complaint has raised many other issues. Lies, incorrect entries on my medical records, referrals not being done, and the worst one - a refusal to do a new wheelchair referral as requested by wheelchair services, because they quite literally could not be bothered to sign a form. This delay in my referral means I have been without a wheelchair since November 2024. I cannot access my kitchen, bathroom, child's bedroom, living room, etc. I received a letter last week, informing me that the doctors have decided to deregister me, because I complained about them. I have never met three of the GPs there, as I haven't been to the surgery since 2017! Their reasoning is that our relationship has broken down. There wasn't a relationship anyway, as they won't ever speak to, or see me! The real reason is because I'm housebound, and they don't want to do (very rare) housecalls. I am now in the process of taking legal action, as some of their lies and errors have been life-threatening, and I could have lost my life back in August due to their negligence. I would advise anyone who is registered with this surgery, to be very aware that they are an ableist, discriminatory group of people, and prey on the vulnerable and sick, because they think we are weak. I also encourage anyone who has had issues with the practice, to contact Llais, who are an advocacy service. They're helping me through the medical negligence/discrimination process. I have suffered so much over the last decade, and I'm no further on with tests, referrals, diagnoses and treatments than I was ten years ago. Their treatment of me has been nothing other than inhumane, and an animal would not have been left to suffer to the extent that I have. Deregistering me the week before Christmas with seven days notice, knowing that I am on essential medication and pain relief, which no doubt they will delay and blame it on Christmas, just says everything you need to know about them. They WANT me to suffer. They are deliberately causing a disabled person to suffer. Bear that in mind when you're looking for a GP to help you get better.

Frustrating wait for a simple doctor appointment

You've been desperately trying to schedule a medical consultation all day long, and the nurse informs you, much to your frustration, that an appointment might be available sometime in September. When you finally arrive at the clinic, it's completely deserted, which is absolutely infuriating.

Nhs appointment system frustrates and wastes precious time

My spouse endured a half-hour phone queue attempting to schedule a medical consultation, only to be informed that no appointments are available until the 18th of August because they're transitioning to a new administrative system! The purpose of our national healthcare seems completely defeated when patients can't even secure basic medical access. The service quality is utterly unacceptable.

Not fit for use

Very little chance of getting an appointment. Huge queues for telephone calls and usually cut off after half an hour or so. Very little help if you do manage to get through. I have managed to make appointments only to be called back to have them cancelled. I have been promised call-backs which just haven't happened. To call this practice rubbish would be a compliment.

Disgusting treatment

Imagine this- I call up for an emergency appointment, they book me in for 10am, I get a callback explaining the GP has cancelled the appointment and they were unable to tell me why. The call gets cut off, I don't get a callback, I spend another 15 mins on the phone (that's 45 minutes in total on hold in 2 hours get through and ask the lady to speak to the GP and explain I'm in too much pain to walk, the pharmacy told me l needed to be seen by a doc asap and that I already took the day off work due to the appointment, which their reply was 'book in for a routine appointment or see a sexual health clinic' (neither options were appropriate which I explain but was ignored). Still don't understand what possessed them to take away my appointment. Still in unbearable pain and once again failed by Pen-y-Groes surgery

Worst medical service ever terrible experience

Picture this scenario: I urgently request an emergency appointment, they schedule me for 10am, then I receive a call stating the GP has cancelled without providing any explanation. The call drops, no follow-up occurs, and I spend another 15 minutes on the phone (totaling 45 minutes on hold within 2 hours). When I finally connect, I plead with the staff member to consult the GP, explaining I'm in excruciating pain, unable to walk, and that the pharmacy emphasized immediate medical attention. I'd already taken time off work for this appointment. Their response? "Book a routine slot or visit a sexual health clinic" - options I clearly explained were completely unsuitable, yet my concerns were completely disregarded. I remain utterly bewildered about why my appointment was abruptly cancelled. I'm still enduring unbearable pain and once again feel completely let down by Pen-y-Groes surgery.

should be closed down

I asked for a bandage to be re-dressed and the nurse refused. I asked for a routine appointment for a check up, there weren't any. I have been ring for weeks for an appointment at all hours of the day and after listening to the long and uninformative message I end up tenth in the queue and lose patients and hang up. There is no health car in Cross hands in my opinion.

Misleading advice leads to frustrating hospital visit

The glowing reviews seem fabricated, as the medical staff appear incompetent. My general practitioner directed me to obtain an x-ray at St. David's hospital, emphasizing the specific location. Before departing, I double-checked, asking if she was certain it wasn't Glangwili hospital, to which she responded with a condescending tone that made me feel foolish. Upon arriving at St. Davids, I was informed no x-ray services were available and was redirected to Glangwili. The initial encounter was disappointing, and I was diagnosed with a bone spur, but given the previous misinformation, I'm skeptical of the accuracy. Perhaps they should consider hiring more qualified personnel to improve their service and credibility.

Horrific medical negligence destroys patient's hope

The situation is utterly appalling. I'm suffering from a severe chronic biloma with ulcerated liver ulcers and a bile duct injury causing me immense pain and distress. After a two-year wait for a specialist appointment that never materialized, I sought a referral to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with my Glangwili hospital diagnostic findings. Upon arrival, they dismissively claimed I was there for mere stomach pains and completely disregarded the CT scan results from Glangwili. They unnecessarily sent me all the way to Birmingham for a blood test, forcing me to restart the entire diagnostic process from scratch. The medical continuity of my initial prognosis has been completely disrupted due to the referral's failure to transmit critical medical information. I've lodged multiple complaints both in person and via email, but the medical staff demonstrate utter indifference. Anyone who prioritizes their health should steer clear of these callous, incompetent doctors who display a shocking lack of professional care and compassion.
